DC regulation of broadcasters and other media entities never goes away, even during a pandemic. This session will provide information about the latest issues in media regulation from the FCC and Congress. Topics include political advertising issues for broadcast and cable and the potential for regulation of online media entities; spectrum issues including the TV repack, the repurposing of the C-Band and the roll-out of ATSC 3.0; the status of reform of the FCC’s media ownership rules; music licensing issues; proposed changes in the use of distributed transmission systems for TV and FM; the FCC’s latest efforts to modernize media regulation; and what may be in store for media companies after the November election.
