Tom Joyce

Tom Joyce is a Managing Director and Capital Markets Strategist in Deutsche Bank's Global Debt Capital Markets Group.  Based in New York, Tom heads a team that provides customized analytical content for large U.S. corporate and Fortune 500 multi-national companies.

In particular, his team provides in depth analysis on the impact of economic, public policy and regulatory dynamics on the U.S. credit, foreign exchange, rates and commodities markets.  Recent areas of focus have included divergent central bank policy, oil’s capitulation, credit market contagion, China’s slowdown, emerging market pressure, Euro sovereign risk, rising volatility and the search for yield in global markets.

Tom’s educational background includes a year of study at Oxford University in 1991, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Holy Cross College in 1993, and a MBA from Kellogg Business School, Northwestern University in 2000.

Jerry Fritz
Executive Vice President, Strategic and Legal Affairs
ONEMedia

Jerry Fritz is Executive Vice President for Strategic and Legal Affairs for ONE Media, LLC, a joint-venture controlled by Sinclair Broadcast Group, the nation’s largest group owner of television stations.  There he oversees long term strategic planning and government relations for the company, supporting the adoption and implementation of the broadcast industry’s “Next Generation” transmission standard.  Jerry plays a critical role in shaping ONE Media’s ideas for the new broadcast platform and Sinclair’s national and international spectrum use positions along with the monetization of its intellectual property. 

Jerry joined ONE Media in 2014 after serving as the long-time General Counsel to television station group owner, Allbritton Communications Company, and its affiliate, POLITICO.  Previously, he served as the Chief of Staff to FCC Chairman Mark Fowler and a primary architect of deregulatory efforts in the broadcasting and telecommunications industries.  Prior to joining the Chairman’s staff, he was in private practice specializing in communications law with Pierson, Ball and Dowd and taught on the adjunct faculty at George Mason University Law School.  Jerry is a Northwestern University graduate with a degree in Radio, Television and Film and a graduate of the Notre Dame Law School where he was the Executive Editor of the Journal of Legislation. He is the author of the Broadcast Station Legal Audit, an operational compliance compendium, and has lectured extensively and testified before Congress on communications law, policy and the future of the telecommunications industry.  Jerry also has been intimately involved in the expansion of traditional lines of business for broadcasters, including 24-hour local cable news, web-casting and Internet service offerings.

Jerry served on the National Association of Broadcasters Board of Directors where he chaired the NAB-X.com Task Force for a virtual trade show and served on the NAB’s Digital Television Task Force as well as its EEO, Web Streaming and Copyright Committees.  He is a past Governor of the ABC Affiliates Association chairing its Government Relations Committee and leading its NewsOne revision team.  He is also a former American Bar Association Communications Law Forum Governing Committee member, and served as the Forum Division Chair.   A member of the Federal Communications Bar Association, Jerry chaired its Continuing Education Committee.  He is a past co-chair of the Media Law Resource Center’s Pre-Publication Review Committee and serves on the faculty of the NAB’s Educational Foundation’s Broadcast Leadership Training Center as well as the Media Sales Institute.  He is also a former member of the advisory committee to the Council for Court Excellence in Washington, DC.

Fred Jacobs

Jacobs Media Strategies

Fred Jacobs is President of Jacobs Media, a company he founded more than 33 years ago. 

Before forming the company, Fred served as Program Director of WRIF/Detroit, and also served as Director of Research for the ABC Owned FM Stations. Fred earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, and a Master’s from Michigan State University.  He also taught radio broadcasting at Michigan State before joining Frank N. Magid Associates, one of the nation’s leading media research firms, rising to the position of Director of Research for the Radio and Publishing divisions. 

Fred was inducted into Michigan Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2005.  He received the prestigious Rockwell award from the Conclave in 2012, Radio Ink’s Luminary Award in 2011, and received an Outstanding Alumni Award from Michigan State’s College of Communication Arts that same year.

Paul Jacobs is vice president and general manager of rock radio consulting firm Jacobs Media. Paul’s broadcasting and consulting career spans over 35 years, and he joined his brothers Fred and Bill at Jacobs Media in 1991. Paul is a leading spokesperson for the radio industry regarding the changing in-car audio experience, building off the Jacobs Media innovative technology tracking surveys—the Techsurvey. In 2008, Jacobs added to his career by taking on the role of president for jacAPPS, a new mobile application development company. Paul is the Chairman of the Board of Greater Public and serves on the Board of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation.

Prior to being named CEO, Brent served in several roles with Magid including President, North American Television; Senior Vice President, Mergers and Acquisitions; and President, International based in London. After graduating from Princeton University and the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business, Brent was an associate in the media and entertainment corporate finance group at Chase Manhattan Bank.
Brent serves on the boards of Lee Enterprises and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Jason Rademacher

Cooley LLP regulatory communications practice

Jason Rademacher is a special counsel in Cooley's regulatory communications practice. He was associated with Dow Lohnes, which merged with Cooley in 2014. Jason has been helping broadcast, cable, telecommunications, technology, and new media clients shape law and policy before federal agencies and Congress and defending those clients before the FCC and the federal courts. His practice focuses on advocacy – helping clients help the government set the right policies in areas like media ownership, spectrum policy, and technology regulation – and defense – protecting clients from government overreach and competitor's unfair business practices.

Jason is expert in all areas of practice and procedure before the FCC and has represented clients of all types in enforcement actions, arbitrations, hearings, formal and informal complaint proceedings, and agency rulemakings. He also frequently advises the firm's clients on a full range of transactional and contracting matters, particularly with respect to mergers and retransmission consent arrangements. As the communications sector has become increasingly competitive, his expertise has become increasingly important in helping the firm's clients develop regulatory compliance strategies that do not obstruct business success.

Brad Smith

Brad brings to Videa more than a decade of TV industry experience, with a focus on helping to advance the broadcast TV model. In his current role, Brad oversees sales, revenue management, operations, data science and finance. He also serves as a liaison with customers to ensure that Videa’s products and services positively impact the greater advertising ecosystem.

Prior to Videa, Brad spent four years at Cox Reps as Senior Vice President of Finance and Operations. He has also held leadership positions at GE, NBC Universal and Four Points Media. Brad is a member of TVB, and holds a degree in Economics from Hobart College. When he is not building key areas of the Videa organization, he is helping his three sons to sharpen their soccer, baseball, swimming and skiing skills.

Harlan J. Wakoff

Harlan J. Wakoff has served as Managing Director in Morgan Stanley & Co.’s Media and Communications Group since September 2014. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, he spent nine years at Deutsche Bank as a Managing Director in the Media and Telecom investment banking group, Head of Media and Telecom in EMEA and Head of Media M&A in the Americas.   Beforehand, he spent 10 years as Managing Director in the Media and Telecom investment banking group and Head of Media M&A in the Americas for Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. Before joining Deutsche Bank in 2005, Wakoff spent six years at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., where he was a Managing Director heading the firm’s Media M&A franchise. From 1996 to 1999, Wakoff was Vice President of the Media and Entertainment Investment Banking Group at ING Baring Furman Selz LLC. Wakoff received a B.S. in Accounting from the State University of New York at Albany and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
